The guidelines have been developed to help achieve more secure information systems and effective risk management within the federal government by: Facilitating a more consistent, comparable, and repeatable approach for selecting and specifying security controls for information systems and organizations; Providing a recommendation for minimum security controls for information systems categorized in accordance with FIPS 199, Standards for Security Categorization of Federal Information and Information Systems; Providing a stable, yet flexible catalog of security controls for information systems and organizations to meet current organizational protection needs and the demands of future protection needs based on changing requirements and technologies; Creating a foundation for the development of assessment methods and procedures for determining security control effectiveness; and Improving communication among organizations by providing a common lexicon that supports discussion of risk management concepts. The guidelines in this special publication are applicable to all federal information systems other than those systems designated as national security systems as defined in 44 U.S.C., Section 3542. The guidelines have been broadly developed from a technical perspective to complement similar guidelines for national security systems and may be used for such systems with the approval of appropriate federal officials exercising policy authority over such systems.13 State, local, and tribal governments, as well as private sector organizations are encouraged to consider using these guidelines, as appropriate. A Seminal Work

The obscure international relations world of international organizations and countries is generally visible and comprehensible to academics and human rights activists, but Anaya has written a seminal work in this area that provides sufficient background for readers to understand the relationship between indigenous peoples and human rights. This is extremely important reading for environmental activists interested in preserving the rainforest, defending sensitive environmental homelands of tribal peoples or understanding the question of access to international fora.
Anaya provides a legal background for the domination of the Western hemisphere by whites and shows how thin it really is.
But the really great thing about this book is that it shows what the state of indigenous people in international bodies is and how it is harnessed by human rights and environmental groups.

About the Author
Edward Cornish is president of the World Future Society and editor of its magazine THE FUTURIST.

With support from comprehensive designer Buckminster Fuller, Nobel prizewinning chemist Glenn T. Seaborg, former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman and many others, he organized a small group to develop plans for a World Future Society, which was officially born in October 1966 as an organization for people interested in the future. The Society now has some 25,000 members in 80 countries.

As a futurist, he has served as an adviser for four U.S. presidents, co-authored a report by the White House's National Goals Research Staff, and served as Chief Investigator in study of futuring for the National Science Foundation and the Library of Congress. He also wrote a textbook on futuring, The Study of the Future, that was widely used in colleges and universities. He resides in Bethesda, Maryland.

Forget the dinosaurs!

This book should appeal to everyone who realizes that there is more to paleontology than dinosaurs and hominids! This was one of the first books to address fossil fishes as a popular read, though it is a pleasure for professionals as well. In fact, I often found myself glancing at some of the placoderm reconstructions during the course of my dissertation. The photos and illustrations, almost as abundant as text, are the most amazing part of this book. One really begins to realize the diversity of these dinosaur antecedents and marvel at the incredibly preserved specimens that Dr. Long and his Australian peers have uncovered. The Devonian actinopterygians on pages 41-42 look like they washed up on the beach yesterday! This book should be an integral part of anyone's paleolibrary, curious readers and paleoworkers alike.

Few issues

I really wanted to like this CD after reading all of its glowing reviews, but unforutnately I have hard time using it. Here are three reasons why.

First, this was originally recorded as a tape in 1994 (you will hear things such as "as you're listening to this tape" during the introduction), and then it was simply burnt on a CD. As a result the introduction is included together with the meditation in one track, and it lasts five long minutes. I'm sure that at first it might be helpful to hear that you shouldn't drive a car while listenning to this "tape" or that this meditation is meant to support but not to replace medical care, but it does get old after a couple of days. My days are busy, and when I have few minutes to myself to meditate, I find that I get quite annoyed to have to go through five mintues of legal disclaimers and other introductory information every single time before starting the meditation. Really I should only need to hear this once before the first use of this meditation. This introduction should be included as a separate track on the CD.

Second, at the beginning of this meditation Susie Matell asks you to listen to the waives and imagine that you're writing things in the sand. This would be such a nice, soothing mental excercise, but unfortunately the "waves" that you hear in the background sound a lot more like rustling paper or leaves than actual waves, which I find very distracting and again, slightly annoying.

Third, and most important, is the fact that this meditation focuses around you imagining that you are receiving what you've been wanting (a gift) and achieving the goals you want to achieve (there is a bridge you need to choose to cross to get there). You are asked to imagine what you want/desire the most more than once, and I find that upsetting. I'm actually using this meditation to help me stop ruminating about something I really want but have trouble getting, and this excercise is actually making it worse for me. It brings up unmet desires and it stirrs up the feeling of deprivation and frustration.

All in all, this might be a good CD if you are not dealing with a loss or not ruminating about something you can't/don't have yet, assuming that you can get over poor sound effects and listenning to the extra five minutes of legal disclaimers and intro each time you want to meditate.

Life saver

I have severe depression and anxiety and have taken medication for years. However, I haven't always taken medication and I still have rough patches. When I'm feeling so depressed I can't even handle being alone with myself I listen to this to fall asleep. It is the ONLY thing that works.

Best relaxation CD ever

My favorite relaxation CD. Bar none. Been listening to it periodically for about ten years. Got this one for my stressed out dentist. The narrator has an amazing calm voice. The "exercises" are great....or you don't have to do them. As the narrator says early on, "You may fall asleep and that's just fine. Rest may be what you need most right now".

Rubank Great book

The Rubank Series and this one in particular are great books for Mallet instruments. My son recently joined band and using this a practice book and guide to playing. A fine book to use for music instruction.
