Review
"This is a very fine, real, rich, bright novel. Above all it is a novel deserving the appreciative reading and warm applause of all who, like the author, value the legends of America and believe in both their perpetuation and their interpretation."—Chicago Sunday Tribune (Chicago Sunday Tribune)

"There is a ranginess, a freewheeling robustness, an engaging lustiness of style and expression here. . . . Lord Grizzly is a heady mixture of history made into first rate fiction."—New York Times (New York Times)

Epic Survival Tale
By Jarhead
An epic survival tale of the old west, but too long and drawn-out in many places. Also, the protagonist's sudden change of heart at the end of the story, after the intense, obsessive hatred he has consistently expressed towards those who left him--true or not--is rather unbelievable. The book is worth reading as an example of how a human being can survive under the worst conditions imaginable, but it could have been cut down to about three-quarters--perhaps even a half--and it would have made it much better reading.

Good read. Plenty of action
By Joyce Derenas
This book does not follow the movie "The Revenant" and I bought this version of the story on purpose because I wanted to read the original, non-Hollywood version. Good read. Plenty of action. Loved that Hugh Glass not only found an aging an dying woman, but gave her water and fire (wampth) where she lie in a cave, dying. And I loved that an Indian from the same tribe watched him and later in the story, complimented him on his respect for her soul after she died.

Loved this book very much.
By Rippy Williams
I loved this story very much. I read the Revenant and didn't want it to end so I took this book up next and I have to say I couldn't put the book down. You get used to Manfred's writing style as you read along. I love the part where they feast on buffalo, felt like I was right there feasting with em. Manfred describes it so you feel like you are there. I didn't want this book to end, I am definitely gonna purchase more books written by Frederick Manfred. Get this book, you won't be disappointed.
