About the Author
Aircraft was Roger Williams' first love, and he joined the de Havilland Aircraft Company where he quickly added motorcars to his list of prime interests. During the ensuing six years he not only completed his apprenticeship and studies, but also built two Ford-based specials. and in 1986 he started his own consultancy business, which allowed him to restore numerous MGBs, a Triumph TR6 and a Triumph Stag, and to write several MGB and Triumph TR books.

Just what I needed

This book has a virtual treasure trove of information in it about putting a Buick-Olds-Pontiac-Rover aluminum V8 in an MGB. For example, it doesn't just say "You will need a bracket to hold some particular thing," it provides a drawing of the bracket you will need to make. The book is out of print and somewhat out of date as far as suppliers are concerned but it is a real gold mine otherwise.

A bit pessimistic

A good book, with loads of detail information, but a reader will likely decide not to do the conversion after reading about all the customization and banging and chopping that, according to this book, must be performed.
From those I've talked to it's really not that bad. So use the book as a guide and don't let him talk you out of making the conversion.

Handy for Quizzing on the go!!!

This "little" quiz is surprisingly challenging and rather handy for those of us who are studying for our Members Exams, but don't wan to drag the texts everywhere. I love that the questions are not simply direct- they are set up to really get your brain and gear; to help you learn and know the material instead of just memorizing it. I found parts of it rather easy, and some of the questions engaging enough to make me check "The Book" again- which, in true Miss B fashion- is likely the intent of the quiz.

Mary Beth Klein ("Miss B" ) is an accomplished Highland Dancer and is one of the most sought-after instructors for work-shops. Her non-nonsense and in-depth approach really shows here.

I would recommend this as an excellent supplemental tool to any highland dancer who is preparing for their Exams, or any one who just would like to deepen their knowledge.

The only thing I did not like was a little of the formatting on the questions- where the proposed answers were sometimes not aligned. This may be an issue with my Kindle app, however. It does not detract from the material, just a little quirk to note.

About the Author
JJ and Peter Isler have been sailing for most of their lives. JJ grew up around boats in San Diego, California, learning to sail in a little 7-foot dinghy called a Sabot. Peter started out loving powerboats and fishing (boys can be so strange!), but took up sailing after his family moved to Connecticut when he was 13 years old.
The Islers are well known throughout the world of sailing as top competitors and teachers. They both have taught sailing to people of all ages and experiences. Peter played an important, early role in developing US Sailing’s educational program. He also coached at the Olympic level and helped found the American Sailing Association, which accredits sailing schools and certifies sailors and instructors.
Peter has twice won the America’s Cup, serving as navigator aboard Stars & Stripes with Dennis Conner in 1987 and 1988. An accomplished small-boat sailor, Peter was Intercollegiate Sailor of the Year while at Yale University. He was the top-ranked U.S. sailor on the professional match-racing circuit for five years and has won many of the world’s major ocean races, including the Bermuda Race and the Transpac (where he navigated Morning Glory to an elapsed time record in 2005).
Peter has also been very active in the media. In the 1990s, he shifted his America’s Cup energies to television, where he was a featured analyst in ESPN’s Emmy Award–winning Cup coverage in 1992 and 1995. More recently, he covered sailing for the Outdoor Life Network (OLN), including its coverage of the 2003 America’s Cup. He is the author of several books on the sport and is presently Editor at Large of Sailing World magazine. In his spare time, Peter enjoys playing guitar and keyboard with his band, The Water Brothers.
JJ is the only American female (so far) to have won two Olympic medals in sailing, and she is the first female inductee in the Sailing World Hall of Fame. With crew member Pamela Healy, JJ won the Bronze Medal in the Women’s 470 class in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. In the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, she and crew member Pease Glaser won the Silver. JJ is a four-time Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year (in 1986, 1991, 1997, and 2000) and has won three World Championships and numerous national titles. She was the first female to compete in a number of events on the international matchracing circuit. And in 1995 she was the tactician and starting helmsman for the America3 Women’s America’s Cup team. She graduated from Yale University where she was captain of the sailing team and a collegiate All-American.

Very comprehensive. I'm an old and quite experienced sailor and purchased the book to consider it as a textbook for teaching my nephews how to sail. Needless to say, it makes a fabulous textbook.

I chose this rating as this truly is a wonderful book for beginners as it is so thorough and easy to understand! I just bought it before going on a sailing course myself and found it helpful to use even on the boat as I learned! Every sailor I spoke to knew of this book and said "oh that is the best book - I know that sailor." Actually it is not for dummies at all, in that it is not so basic that you feel insulted...No one else has ever been able to explain clearly to me the physics or principles behind sailing into the wind...yet this book did by comparing it to putting your hand out the car window and having the wind pull your hand - that is lift! It tackles quite deep subjects and explains all the terms...I would recommend this book to anyone before they attempt sailing - it will give you a great basis for enjoyment on the water!)

The Marcos journal is an extraordinary piece of history, more than 2,500 pages that document the making of a dictator. It was found abandoned amidst crates of official records when Ferdinand and Imelda fled Manila for exile in Hawaii. It is handwritten in English on Malacanang Palace stationary, the penmanship usually neat, the prose often Olympian.

At the same time, it is not reliably accurate. In fact, it is filled with lies and disinformation. But with veteran Los Angeles Times investigative reporter William C. Rempel as a guide, the diary reveals much more about Ferdinand and Imelda than they ever intended – his hypochondria and dark paranoia, her superstitions and obsessions, and their shared delusions of grandeur.

The Philippines of the mid-1960s and early 1970s was strategically vital to the U.S. war efforts in Vietnam. That importance allowed the Marcoses to wring major concessions out of the White House. President Johnson felt blackmailed by Ferdinand. President Nixon was confronted by Imelda’s warning that he risked losing the Philippines to communism. Against this backdrop, Diary of a Dictator follows the fall of Philippine democracy.

Through the Marcos diary we witness a democratically elected president plotting like a modern-day Machiavelli – secretly manipulating Supreme Court justices; sending agents provocateurs to foment violence he could blame on “the Communists;” drafting a Nixonian enemies list that branded as traitors his most popular political rivals.

Journalist Rempel was the first person outside the Philippine government with access to most of the Marcos diary and to other confidential presidential papers. That was nearly 25 years ago. Today, the original documents remain officially classified and under seal.

Must book for any web developer

I know words like "TCP" and "sockets" sound so computer sciency. And they scare me. That's why I did not learn much about it . Until I found this book.

Author has done an amazing job describing in simple terms what it all means. And once you understand the basic fundamental blocks then you are ready to be more receptive to other discussions in the field of "sockets".

The examples use ruby code. But you do not need to know ruby to understand it all. First of all ruby is very english like language. Secondly author has not used features of ruby for which you need to know ruby before hand. In fact ruby helps here because it cuts out all the boilerplate code and you can get to the meat of it .

I didn't know much about sockets and I learned a lot!

I am new to ruby and even newer to sockets programming. This book helped me understand the server/client model better and know more about the Ruby's standard library for TCP socket.

Jesse explains how sockets work with Ruby implementations in the book. It helps a lot to clarify the fundamental concepts of the socket programming and provides good examples if you need to build things from scratch or read others' gem.
